1939, chestnut Saqlawiyah Jadraniyah of Ibn Sudan mare. (Gulastra x Valida). Bred by Francis Clark of Nebraska, she was the foundation mare of the Doyle family’s strain of Saqlawi Jadran of Ibn Sudan.
Gulida’s sire Gulastra was bred by WR Brown. Her dam Valida was bred by EW Hassan. Valida’s sire Ghawi and her dam Ghazil, were both bred by WR Brown.
In the summer of 1949, a 16 year old Terry Doyle got in his Ford pickup and drove 400 miles to Stuart, Nebraska. He put 10 year old Gulida in the back of the pickup bed and drove her home to Sigourney, Iowa. She had been scarred prior to her purchase by Terry’s father, J.L. “Doc” Doyle and had a chunk of flesh missing from her right shoulder due to barb wire.
When Gulida arrived at the Doyle farm she was in foal to a part bred stallion tracing to Skowronek. The resulting part bred foal, named Tyrone, was removed from the property in 1950. Gulida would have 7 foals for the Doyle family including 5 fillies and 2 colts over the next 10 years.
